Arbitration Award of $68,015.89
When Jane Doe awoke in 1995, her life was a very happy place. She had her health, she was only months away from graduating school where she was to earn her degree in June of 1995. She was also just months away from marrying the man of her dreams. In fact, a day in April was set aside to be devoted to planning her upcoming wedding to John Doe.
On her way home from the church, where she had just finished going over some details for her upcoming wedding, her life changed forever when a motor vehicle plowed into the rear of Ms. Doe’s motor vehicle, leaving her with damages and injuries that would last a lifetime.
The impact of this accident and the injuries sustained by Jane Doe in April of 1995 were immediate. Although she was able to graduate as anticipated in June of 1995 with her degree, she was unable to accept a job that she had been offered after her graduation. The injuries also force Ms. Doe to postpone her honeymoon plans after her July wedding. As a result of the accident, Jane Doe sustained injuries to her neck, back and head and she was left with a 7.5% permanent impairment to her neck and a 7.5% permanent impairment to her back. The medical bills continued to mount, ultimately totaling $6000.00. Her injuries also interfered with her ability to work causing her substantial lost wages.
A lawsuit was ultimately filed against the owner and operator of the motor vehicle which struck Ms. Doe as the insurance carrier was unwilling to offer a reasonable figure to resolve her case. After a pretrial conference held at a superior court in Connecticut, it was agreed by all parties that the case should be resolved by means of a binding arbitration.
In March of 1999, Jane Doe’s attorney’s presented the case before the Judge at an arbitration hearing, both John and Jane Doe testified at the hearing. Several weeks after the hearing, the judge awarded Jane Doe $68,015.89 to compensate for her losses.
